Surveying and submissions
The SVCA Graffiti Project.The Stour Valley Community Archaeology group aims to provide opportunities for community archaeology projects along the Suffolk/Essex border. No previous archaeological or surveying experience is necessary; just a desire to discover, research and enjoy the fascinating archaeology of the Stour Valley.
If you are interested in taking part in the graffiti project we would like to welcome you to the group. Membership of the SVCA can be arranged by contacting stourvalleyarchaeology@gmail.com.
No previous knowledge of graffiti, photography, or archaeology is required for this project. A digital camera, led torch and inexpensive photographic scale are all the basic equipment required. Images are sent to the survey via Dropbox, a piece of software which can be downloaded free of charge.
Some of our members have attended talks and training from the Suffolk/Norfolk medieval graffiti survey (director Matt Champion). If you haven't attended training but are a member of the SVCA and want to get involved then we will look to support you with someone who has undertaken the training and is familiar with the paperwork. If you prefer to meet up and survey with other people interested in graffiti, then the next group survey date and location can be found on the main page.
The photographs and data gathered from this project are forwarded by individual members to the Suffolk Medieval Graffiti Survey and the co-ordinators of the SVCA Graffiti Project. The surveying forms and information how to complete them can be sent to you by e-mailing svcagraffiti@gmail.com.
The SVCA co-ordinators also accept part surveys and photos not just from the Suffolk Essex border, but from areas outside of the Stour Valley. If you are an SVCA member and you happen across graffiti when you are on your travels it will be logged on the "Beyond the Stour" page.
When you send in your survey to the email contacts below, SVCA Graffiti Project will use some of your images on this blog with a credit to the photographer, unless advised otherwise. Unlike the Suffolk medieval graffiti survey the SVCA Graffiti Project cannot store survey data, so we would recommend that members keep their own electronic records and paper surveys.
